CPIM Certification Cost in Saudi Arabia: Exam Fees, Training and Total Budget

Nobody asks us what CPIM costs. They ask what it will cost them, which is a different question, and the answer moves depending on whether you join ASCM, whether you buy the Learning System, whether your employer pays, and whether you sit the exam once or twice.
So here is the whole picture as we quote it to candidates in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar. Every figure below is approximate and correct at the time of writing, and ASCM adjusts pricing periodically, so treat these as planning numbers rather than a quotation. The riyal is pegged at roughly SAR 3.75 to the dollar, which at least makes the conversion easy.
The one fee you cannot avoid
The exam itself is the fixed part. At the time of writing ASCM prices the CPIM exam at roughly USD 1,240 for members and roughly USD 1,720 for non members, which is about SAR 4,650 and SAR 6,450. Confirm the current figure on the ASCM CPIM page before you commit, because that page is the only source that is ever right.
Since 2023 CPIM has been a single exam rather than the old two part structure, so there is one fee, not two. That change made the credential cheaper to reach and, in our experience, harder to prepare for, because everything now sits in one three and a half hour sitting.
ASCM also sells a bundle that packages the CPIM Learning System with the exam authorization and a second chance exam. At the time of writing that lands near USD 2,230 for members and USD 3,110 for non members, roughly SAR 8,400 and SAR 11,700. For most of our candidates the bundle is the sensible buy, purely because the second chance sitting is worth more than it looks.
Membership: the arithmetic people get backwards
ASCM membership is optional and it does not affect your eligibility to sit CPIM at all. It affects the invoice.
At the time of writing ASCM membership with the certification upgrade, which is the tier that switches on the discounts on exams and learning products, costs in the region of USD 199 a year, roughly SAR 750. Put plainly: if the membership costs less than the discount it produces, join first and buy second.
That sequencing matters more than the amount. Buy your exam and then join, and you have paid the non member price for nothing. We see this every intake, usually from someone who registered late one evening before checking.
Training: what you are actually paying for
Training is the variable that people underestimate and then blame. Self study with the Learning System works if you are disciplined, have real planning experience, and can protect eight to ten hours a week. If any of those three is missing, a taught program is not a luxury.
Providers in the Kingdom quote differently, and comparing them is genuinely hard because the packages are not the same shape. Some quote tuition only. Some include the ASCM Learning System. Some include the exam voucher. When you ask us for a price on our CPIM preparation program, ask for one inclusive figure in riyals covering tuition, materials and the exam, and then ask every other provider for the same thing. The cheapest tuition line is frequently the most expensive total.
One practical note for anyone outside the main cities. Live online classes remove travel and hotel costs entirely, and for candidates in Yanbu, Jubail, Abha or Tabuk that saving alone often exceeds the difference between two providers.
The costs people forget
Three of them, and they are the ones that turn a tidy budget into an awkward conversation with finance.
The retake. A retake fee applies if you sit again outside a second chance entitlement. This is the strongest argument for the bundle, and the strongest argument for not booking your date before you are ready. Our first attempt study plan exists mostly to keep this line at zero.
Renewal. CPIM is not permanent. You maintain it with 75 professional development points every five years, and a maintenance fee applies when you submit. Spread across five years it is small, but it is not nothing, and it belongs in the plan from the start. We cover the mechanics in our guide to renewing your CPIM certification.
Time. Not an invoice, but the largest real cost. Ten to fourteen weeks at roughly eight hours a week is what we see working. If your employer is funding the fee but not the hours, negotiate the hours too.
A working budget for a Saudi candidate
| Item | Typical cost at the time of writing | Approximate SAR |
|---|---|---|
| ASCM exam only, non member | about USD 1,720 | about SAR 6,450 |
| ASCM exam only, member | about USD 1,240 | about SAR 4,650 |
| Learning System, exam and second chance bundle, member | about USD 2,230 | about SAR 8,400 |
| Same bundle, non member | about USD 3,110 | about SAR 11,700 |
| ASCM membership with certification upgrade, one year | about USD 199 | about SAR 750 |
| Taught prep program in the Kingdom | quoted by the provider | ask for one inclusive figure |
| Retake sitting | retake fee applies | confirm with ASCM before rebooking |
| Renewal every five years | maintenance fee plus 75 points | budget it from year one |
Read the table as a menu, not a total. A member buying the bundle and taking a taught program in Riyadh is on a very different line from a self funded candidate paying non member exam fees and studying alone.
Employers, budgets and who actually pays
Very few of the candidates in our classes pay the full amount from their own pocket, and the ones who do usually did not ask first.
Employer sponsorship is the main route, and it is more winnable than people assume. Manufacturers, distributors and the giga project supply teams are competing for planners who can run a master schedule properly, and a training request framed around inventory accuracy, fewer expedited shipments or a shorter planning cycle lands far better than one framed around personal development. If you need the numbers to support that case, our article on whether CPIM is worth it in Saudi Arabia is written for exactly that conversation.
If the central training budget is already committed, there are three more routes worth trying before you decide to fund it yourself. The first is the departmental line rather than the central pot: supply chain and operations managers often hold a small development allowance that goes unspent every year because nobody asks for it by name. The second is timing. Ask to be booked into the first intake of the next financial year and get the approval signed now, so the cost falls into a budget that is still open rather than one that has closed. The third is to ask us about paying in phases. Our advisors in Saudi Arabia can often arrange the fee across instalments tied to the course schedule, and that conversation is worth having before you write the credential off as unaffordable.
One last suggestion. Ask for the exam fee and the training in the same approval, not in two. Splitting them is how people end up funded for a course and then stuck paying for the exam themselves in a quarter when the budget has closed.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the CPIM exam cost in Saudi Arabia?
At the time of writing ASCM prices the single CPIM exam at roughly USD 1,240 for members and USD 1,720 for non members, which is about SAR 4,650 to SAR 6,450. The fee is the same wherever you sit it, so a Pearson VUE center in Riyadh costs no more than one in Jeddah. Always confirm current pricing on ascm.org before you pay.
Is the CPIM bundle better value than buying the exam alone?
For most candidates, yes. The bundle packages the Learning System, the exam authorization and a second chance sitting, which at the time of writing sits near USD 2,230 for members. Buying the exam alone only makes sense if you already have current version 9.0 study material and strong planning experience.
Do I need to pay for ASCM membership to sit CPIM?
No, membership is optional and has no effect on eligibility. It usually pays for itself through the discounted exam and Learning System pricing, provided you join before you buy. Joining afterwards does not backdate the discount.
Will my employer pay for CPIM certification?
Many do, particularly manufacturers, distributors and giga project supply teams that are short of qualified planners. Put the request in operational terms such as inventory accuracy, fewer expedited shipments or a shorter planning cycle, and ask for the exam fee and the training in one approval. If this year's budget is closed, ask to be booked into the first intake of the next financial year.
What does it cost to keep CPIM valid after I pass?
You maintain the credential with 75 professional development points every five years and pay a maintenance fee when you submit. Points come from training, webinars, teaching and relevant professional activity, so many people accumulate them without extra spend. Build the small renewal cost into your plan from the first year.
How much does CPIM training cost in Riyadh or Jeddah?
Providers quote very differently because the packages are not comparable, with some including the Learning System and exam voucher and others quoting tuition only. Ask for a single inclusive figure in riyals covering tuition, materials and the exam, then compare like with like. Live online delivery removes travel and accommodation costs for candidates outside the main cities.
