How does the IATA exam work for students in Oman?
IATA exams run in scheduled sessions, not on a date you pick. Your exam is arranged through Blue Ocean Academy in Dubai, and some exams are remote supervised where IATA offers it, so you may not have to travel.
- Sessions have traditionally fallen in March, June, September and December windows.
- The format is typically multiple choice, and many diploma exams run around 3 hours.
- The pass mark is usually 60%, with 70% for distinction.
IATA sets these rules and can change them, so confirm them on iata.org/training.
How do you fit IATA study around a job in Oman?
Work backward from a session. Pick the exam window you want, ask an advisor how far ahead your course must start, and then fit study around your shifts.
Ask an advisor how long your chosen IATA course takes before you commit to a window. For a free first step, Fundamentals of Aviation is self paced, and the course page lists about 47 hours of study.
Oman Airports, set up in 2002, administers civil airports including Muscat International, Salalah, Duqm and Sohar, plus regional airports at the Fahud, Marmul and Qarn Alam oil fields. If you work in airport operations or ground handling at one of these airports, start with Airport Operations Fundamentals or Passenger Ground Service Agent.
Who can enroll in an IATA course from Oman?
IATA entry courses generally ask for a high school diploma and English ability. For entry courses you generally do not need earlier aviation experience.
Cabin crew work brings age and medical and appearance considerations. They come in at the airline hiring stage, not for the Airline Cabin Crew course. The course ends in a certificate of completion, not a license, and an airline decides who it hires.
Entry rules can change, so confirm them on iata.org/training or with an advisor before you enroll.
How much do IATA courses cost in Oman?
Fees are in USD. Live online, Airport Operations Fundamentals, Passenger Ground Service Agent and Airline Cabin Crew each cost USD 1,400, and Ground Operations Management Training costs USD 1,800.
The fee table on this page lists every IATA course. The exam is separate from the course fee, so ask an advisor what it costs. If you would rather not travel to Dubai, choose live online. If you prefer a classroom, ask an advisor about studying at the Authorized Training Center in Dubai and the fee for it. IATA courses run through that Dubai center only.
Which IATA course is right for your role in Oman?
Match the course to the work you do or want to do, and pick a different path if the work is outside airports, airlines and travel.
- Entry level airport staff: Airport Operations Fundamentals, for customer service and ground operations personnel.
- Passenger handling or ground handling: Passenger Ground Service Agent, for airline customer service agents and ground handling professionals.
- Ramp work: Airport Ramp Services, for aspiring ramp and ground handling professionals and newly recruited ground service staff.
- Supervision: Ground Operations Management Training, for ground handling staff moving into supervisory roles, and aspiring aviation professionals looking to enter airport and ground operations.
- Cabin crew: Airline Cabin Crew, for people aiming at international airline environments.
- Travel and tourism: Foundation in Travel and Tourism Diploma, for entry level tourism and hospitality professionals and travel agency candidates.
Airport Operations Fundamentals or Passenger Ground Service Agent: how do you choose?
Both courses cost USD 1,400 live online, so choose by which description matches your job.
The first is written for people seeking careers in airport and airline operations, entry level airport operations staff, and customer service and ground operations personnel. The second is aimed at airport operations staff, ground handling professionals, airline customer service agents, and ramp and turnaround coordinators. If you are unsure which description fits you, send an advisor your job title and ask.
Airline Cabin Crew or the Travel and Tourism Diploma?
Choose Airline Cabin Crew if you aspire to cabin crew work and international airline environments, and the Foundation in Travel and Tourism Diploma if you want a travel agency, tourism or hospitality role.
Live online, the cabin crew program costs USD 1,400 and the diploma costs USD 1,600. Cabin crew training ends in a certificate of completion. An airline decides who it hires, and it applies its own age and medical and appearance considerations at that stage. The diploma is built for entry level tourism and hospitality professionals and for travel agency and airline service candidates.
Are there alternatives or national programs in Oman to check first?
If you are Omani, national training programs exist, and the Ministry of Labour is the place to check your own eligibility.
Oman's Ministry of Labour has planned 60,000 job opportunities for 2026, including 17,000 through national training and qualification programmes. If your goal is a free first aviation course, start with Fundamentals of Aviation, and use an IATA program once you know the field suits you. If your work is outside aviation and travel, an advisor can suggest other Blue Ocean programs.
