What do IATA courses in Qatar cost, and where do you study them?

The IATA programs are USD 1,400 to USD 1,800 each, live online. From Qatar, you study online or travel to Blue Ocean's IATA Authorized Training Center in Dubai.

Airport Operations Fundamentals, Passenger Ground Service Agent and Airline Cabin Crew are each USD 1,400. Airport Ramp Services is USD 1,500, and Ground Operations Management Training is USD 1,800. The exam is separate from the course fee, and an advisor can tell you how long the course takes.

Which IATA course suits your role?

Match the course to the job you want, because the programs are written for different entry points.

  • Airport Operations Fundamentals suits people seeking careers in airport and airline operations, and customer service and ground operations staff.
  • Passenger Ground Service Agent suits airport operations staff, ground handling professionals and airline customer service agents.
  • Airport Ramp Services suits people entering ground handling and newly recruited airline, airport and ground service staff.
  • Airline Cabin Crew suits people aspiring to be cabin crew and entry level airline service candidates.
  • Ground Operations Management Training suits ground handling staff who want to move into supervisory roles.
  • Foundation in Travel and Tourism Diploma (USD 1,600) suits entry level tourism and hospitality professionals and travel agency candidates.

Ramp, passenger service or cabin crew: which first?

Choose by the job you want: ramp and ground handling, passenger service, or cabin crew.

  • Choose Airport Ramp Services if you are entering ground handling. It suits newly recruited ground service staff and people entering ground handling.
  • Choose Passenger Ground Service Agent if you already deal with customers and want the airport version of that work. It also suits ramp and turnaround coordinators.
  • Choose Airline Cabin Crew if you want to work in international airline environments, or build a career in passenger service operations.
  • Choose Airport Operations Fundamentals if you are not sure. It suits aspiring aviation and airport professionals.

When does the Foundation in Travel and Tourism Diploma make sense?

Choose it if your goal is travel agency or tourism work rather than the airport floor. It is USD 1,600 live online and suits entry level tourism and hospitality professionals, travel agency and airline service candidates, and anyone who wants foundation knowledge of the tourism industry.

If you want to work at an airport or on an aircraft, one of the operations or cabin courses fits better.

Who is an IATA course not for?

An IATA course will not get you hired on its own. Airline Cabin Crew ends in a certificate of completion, and it is not a license. Age, medical and appearance considerations apply later, at the airline hiring stage, not for the course.

Ground Operations Management Training suits ground handling staff who want a supervisory step, and aspiring aviation professionals looking to enter airport and ground operations. For a first look at the field, you can also try the free, self paced Fundamentals of Aviation, which lists about 47 hours of study and is not an IATA course.

Can your employer help you choose?

If you already work at Hamad International Airport, ask your employer whether a course fits your plans. Matar, the Qatari Company for Airports Operation and Management, operates the airport under Civil Aviation Authority supervision, under a contract signed in 2019.

If you are Qatari, Law No. 12 of 2024 requires private sector employers to train Qatari staff. Ask HR whether an IATA course can sit inside that plan.

How does the IATA exam work?

IATA exams run in scheduled sessions, traditionally in March, June, September and December windows. Blue Ocean Academy in Dubai arranges them, and IATA offers remote supervised exams where available.

Many diploma exams are multiple choice and run around 3 hours. The usual pass mark is 60%, with 70% for a distinction, but confirm the current rules on iata.org/training because IATA can change them.

Entry is generally a high school diploma and English ability. The entry courses ask for no prior aviation experience.

Should you sit the exam in Dubai or remotely?

Ask your advisor which option IATA offers for your course in the next session. Remote supervised exams save a trip when IATA offers them, and the Dubai route suits people who prefer a supervised room.

Either way, Blue Ocean Academy in Dubai arranges the exam. Ask an advisor which session suits your start date.

Your next moves

Settle the course, the format and the exam window, in that order.

  1. Choose the course from the list above that matches the job you want in the next year.
  2. Decide between live online study and a visit to the Authorized Training Center in Dubai, and ask an advisor how long the course takes.
  3. Ask an advisor for the next IATA exam session and how it is arranged from Qatar.
  4. If you are Qatari or employed at an airport, ask HR whether the course fits your training plan before you pay.
