The short answer
If you want a diploma that the logistics profession itself awards, the CILT International Diploma in Logistics and Transport is it, and it is written for people who already plan or manage operations. If you are a coordinator or supervisor not yet at that level, the CILT International Certificate is the honest first step. If your need is transport and distribution skill rather than a qualification, the two self-paced programmes get you there in 45 hours each. If you want a university diploma, you need a university; the differences are set out below so you can choose knowingly.
Three things a logistics diploma means in India
- University and polytechnic diplomas: one- to two-year academic programmes with entrance rules, assessed by the institution, carrying academic credit. They suit school leavers choosing a career path.
- Private institute diplomas: a training company's own "diploma", assessed by itself, of whatever quality the company brings. The word carries no external meaning here, and buyers should ask who assesses it and who recognises it.
- The CILT International Diploma: a professional qualification awarded by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, the international professional body for the sector, assessed by CILT examination, positioned for working professionals. It is a professional diploma, not a degree, and it is recognised across the industry because of who awards it.
We deliver the third. We do not award our own "diploma" in logistics, and our self-paced programmes carry certificates of completion, named as such.
The CILT International Diploma in Logistics and Transport
CILT writes the International Diploma for people who already plan logistics operations and hold supervisory or operational management roles, and it expects candidates to arrive with real operational knowledge and a grasp of how the supply chain fits together, whether from work or earlier study. Structurally there are four units: one compulsory unit on management in logistics and transport, electives chosen from supply chain management, transport operations and transport planning, and a list of optional units. CILT examines every unit, publishes planning figures of 12 to 18 months part time and 360 guided learning hours, and lets units be taken one at a time. The exact CILT wording, unit codes and the CILT International versus CILT(UK) distinction are set out in CILT qualifications in India.
Our cohort takes four areas that map onto the qualification: management in logistics and transport, supply chain management, transport planning, and international business, the last of which brings in freight management, shipping law and marine insurance concepts. It runs live online and is pitched at mid-level logistics and transport people, and at supply chain executives stepping into management. Course page.
The CILT International Certificate in Logistics and Transport
CILT pitches the International Certificate at people moving into supervision or already leading a team. Our cohort works through business theory, business applications, and warehousing and inventory, using exercises, case studies and group discussion, live online. It fits logistics coordinators and transport or warehouse supervisors who want an international credential before committing to the Diploma. Course page.
Transport and distribution programmes
Certificate in Distribution and Transportation (45 hours, 20 modules). The course is organised around what a distribution manager has to be able to do: design and cost a network, choose where to locate stock, select modes for a given lane, plan routes and schedules, run a fleet, manage orders and inventory across the network and the warehouse-to-distribution handover, deliver the last mile, apply Incoterms to cross-border movements, and report transport cost, KPIs and compliance, with a module on the technology that supports all of it. It is built to CILT's professional framework; the course page states its exact CILT status and what the certificate says. For distribution and transport managers and fleet and delivery operations managers. Course page.
Logistics and Transportation (45 hours, 17 modules). A cost-and-performance view of moving goods: logistics as a driver of business results, the hidden costs that sit in transport and handling, frameworks for designing a distribution network, picking modes for real business scenarios, controlling transport and freight spend, evaluating and buying carrier capacity, planning the day's transport in step with the warehouse, last-mile strategy, and the compliance side of international movements. For logistics, warehouse and operations staff who answer for movement, cost and delivery performance. Blue Ocean certificate of completion. Course page.
The roles these lead toward
Transport planner, fleet manager, distribution centre manager, logistics manager and 3PL operations manager are the roles these courses feed, and with the Diploma plus experience, head of logistics or transport in manufacturers, retailers, e-commerce and 3PLs. If your employer specifies ASCM rather than CILT for distribution roles, the CLTD explainer and the logistics certification comparison cover that route.
Study time and exams
Budget a year to eighteen months for the Diploma, which is CILT's own planning figure; CILT International sets the exams and we schedule your sittings as the training provider. The Certificate is a shorter cohort. The two self-paced programmes each list 45 guided hours and assess you inside the course.
Delivery in India
The CILT qualifications run as live online cohorts and the two programmes are self-paced, so where you live in India does not change what you study. If you want to talk it through in person, our centres are in New Delhi, Noida, Pune, Hyderabad and Kochi, and Kochi has a logistics-focused centre page. Course pages show rupee tuition to visitors in India. CILT charges its own registration and examination fees on top, at CILT's rates.
