CIPM Exam in Saudi Arabia: Format, Test Centers and How to Book
Read this guide in Arabic: اقرأ بالعربية
The CIPM exam in Saudi Arabia surprises people, but not in the way they expect. Candidates arrive braced for something like the PMP experience: a booking portal, a Prometric branch in a Riyadh business tower, biometric check in, a score report on screen before you stand up. That is not how IPSCMI works. Once you understand the difference, the whole thing gets simpler, and a lot of the anxiety we see in class disappears.
Here is what the exam actually involves, where you sit it in the Kingdom, and how booking really happens. If you have not confirmed you can apply at manager level yet, check our guide to CIPM requirements and eligibility in Saudi Arabia first.

At the time of writing, the IPSCMI CIPM page describes an 80 question multiple choice examination lasting three hours, drawn from the International Purchasing Management Body of Knowledge, which everyone shortens to IPMBOK.
Do the arithmetic and it is a comfortable pace: about two minutes and fifteen seconds per question. In our experience most candidates finish with time left over. The pressure in this exam is not the clock, it is the ambiguity of manager level questions, which we come back to below.
IPSCMI does not publish a pass mark. You will find numbers quoted on forums and on the websites of training companies, and we will not repeat any of them because we cannot verify them. What we can tell you is that the standard is set at the level of a working procurement manager, and candidates who understand the material rather than memorizing the slides pass comfortably.
Everything IPSCMI publishes for this program is in English, and that is how the exam is written and delivered. Arabic speaking candidates in our Riyadh and Jeddah classes handle it without difficulty, because the vocabulary is procurement vocabulary they already use at work every day. If your written English is weak, the fix is reading practice on procurement text, not a translated shortcut.
Where you sit the CIPM exam in Saudi Arabia
This is the part worth reading twice. There is no public network of CIPM test centers in the Kingdom that you book into yourself. IPSCMI allows candidates to select their own examination location and proctor, and it approves the arrangement case by case.
In practice, for candidates in Saudi Arabia, that means one of two things. Either you organize a qualified proctor and a suitable room yourself, or you take the far more common route and sit the exam through a provider that administers it. We run the CIPM program in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar and live online, and the exam is administered at the end of the program, in the same room where you trained, with the paperwork handled for you. For Riyadh based candidates, the schedule and venue details sit on our CIPM course in Riyadh page.
The proctor rule
If you do go it alone, the proctor requirement is specific. IPSCMI expects the proctor to be an active certified member of the institute, or a manager, supervisor, teacher, professor or someone of similar standing, and it decides on each case individually. A colleague at the same grade as you will not be accepted. Your own line manager may be, if the institute agrees.
We have watched candidates lose three weeks to this single step: finding a willing professor, exchanging emails across time zones, waiting for approval. It is the strongest practical argument for going through a provider, and it is why almost nobody in the Kingdom takes the independent route.
How to book the CIPM exam, step by step
- Send your CV and documents for the eligibility check. Nothing else can start until the level 2 question is settled.
- Choose an intake and a city, or the live online option, and confirm your seat. The exam date is fixed by the intake, so choosing your dates is the same decision as booking the exam.
- Complete the program. The exam sits at the end, usually on the final day, while the material is still fresh.
- Sit the exam under the arrangement the academy makes with IPSCMI.
- Your result and certification application go to IPSCMI, and the certificate is issued and shipped from the United States. Allow a few weeks for delivery and plan around it if a promotion deadline is involved.
What this means for planning: you are not booking an exam slot, you are booking a program. If your employer needs the certificate by a certain quarter, work backwards from intake dates and add time for shipping. We get calls every year from candidates who left themselves three weeks and a hard deadline.
What ID do you need on exam day
- Bring original photo identification. Passport, Iqama or national ID. A photograph on your phone is not identification.
- The name on your ID should match the name on your enrollment file, because that is the name printed on the certificate.
- Phones and smart watches go away for the duration. Take the watch off before you sit down rather than being asked.
- Bring a bottle of water and something to write with. Three hours in an over cooled meeting room is longer than it sounds.
- Arrive early enough to settle. Riyadh traffic on a weekday afternoon has cost more candidates their composure than any exam question.
What the questions feel like
This is a manager level paper, and the difficulty is judgement rather than recall. You will get a short scenario, four options that are all defensible, and a requirement to pick the best one. The trap for experienced buyers is answering the way their current employer does things instead of the way the body of knowledge says a procurement manager should.
Our trainers repeat one instruction all week: read the question for what it is asking you to protect. Cost, continuity of supply, compliance, or the relationship. Once you spot which of those the scenario is really about, two of the four options usually fall away. If you want the full preparation approach, we set it out in our study plan for passing CIPM on the first attempt.
Rescheduling, missed exams and retakes
Because the exam is tied to an intake rather than a self service booking system, rescheduling means moving to a later intake. Tell us early and it is usually straightforward. Tell us the night before and options narrow.
Emergencies happen, and travel for work is a fact of life in this profession, especially for anyone supporting the giga projects where site visits appear at no notice. Candidates who miss the exam day are normally slotted into the next available sitting. Ask for the retake and deferral policy in writing when you enroll so you know exactly where you stand, and while you are asking, the fee side is covered in our CIPM cost breakdown for Saudi Arabia.
Frequently asked questions
How many questions are on the CIPM exam?
At the time of writing IPSCMI describes the CIPM exam as an 80 question multiple choice paper lasting three hours, based on the International Purchasing Management Body of Knowledge. That works out to a little over two minutes per question, which most candidates find comfortable.
What is the CIPM passing score?
IPSCMI does not publish a pass mark for CIPM. Figures circulating online are not confirmed by the institute, so we do not quote them. Aim to understand the material well enough to reason through scenario questions rather than targeting a specific percentage.
Where can I take the CIPM exam in Saudi Arabia?
There is no public test center network for CIPM in the Kingdom. IPSCMI lets candidates use their own approved location and proctor, and in practice most people sit the exam through a training provider. We administer it at the end of the program in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar, and for live online groups as well.
Is the CIPM exam available in Arabic?
Everything IPSCMI publishes for this program is in English, and that is how the exam is set and delivered. Arabic speaking candidates in our classes cope well because the terminology matches the language they already use in tenders and contracts. If English is a concern, tell us before you enroll so we can advise honestly.
How do I book the CIPM exam?
You do not book a slot the way you would for PMP. You book a program intake, and the exam is administered at the end of it. Start with the eligibility check, choose your city or the online option, then attend and sit the exam on the final day.
What happens if I have to miss my exam day?
Because the exam is tied to an intake, missing it normally means joining the next available sitting. Let the academy know as early as you can, since late notice limits the options. Ask for the deferral and retake policy in writing when you enroll.
