PMP Salary in Egypt: What Certified Professionals Earn

PMP Salary in Egypt: What Certified Professionals Earn

Read this guide in Arabic: اقرأ بالعربية

Salary is the question people ask us quietly, after the class, so let us answer it openly. The figures below are what salary surveys and job postings for project roles in Egypt typically show at the time of writing, expressed as monthly ranges in EGP. They are not promises, and nobody should expect a single number to apply to them. Egyptian pay has moved sharply with inflation and the exchange rate, so treat every range as a snapshot and recheck live postings before you negotiate.

What PMP holders earn in Egypt by seniority

LevelTypical monthly range shown by surveys and postings (EGP)Notes
Project coordinator or junior project manager15,000 to 30,000Few hold the PMP yet; the certification matters more at the next step
Project manager at an Egyptian company or SME30,000 to 60,000Wide spread; the PMP helps most when the company sells to multinationals or exports
Project manager at a multinational, bank or large Egyptian group50,000 to 110,000This is where the PMP is most often listed as required or strongly preferred
Senior project manager or program manager90,000 to 180,000Usually with a performance bonus; the PMP is close to standard
PMO head, portfolio or delivery director150,000 and aboveOften paired with a PgMP, an MBA or long sector experience

Two cautions. The upper ends are Cairo figures at employers that benchmark against international pay. And bonuses, allowances and medical cover vary so much in Egypt that two offers with the same basic salary can differ by a third in real terms.

How much does the PMP itself add?

PMI's global salary survey has for years reported that PMP holders earn more than non holders, with a gap in the double digits in percentage terms worldwide. We cannot give you an Egypt specific percentage that would survive scrutiny, and we will not invent one. What we see in Cairo is more useful than a percentage anyway. The PMP gets you shortlisted for roles that would otherwise filter you out, it tends to place you a grade higher when you join a bank or a multinational, and it is frequently the deciding line when two internal candidates compete for a senior project manager post. At an SME that pays from the project budget rather than a grading structure, the premium is often zero until you move on.

Pay by sector

Multinationals and the shared service centers around Smart Village, Maadi and New Cairo sit at the top of the table, and they are the most likely to pay partly against a dollar benchmark. Banks come next: CIB, NBE and Banque Misr have all run large digital and core banking programs that created project manager roles with structured grades, and the PMP is a common requirement there. Telecoms and fintech pay well for delivery managers who can run hybrid work. Large Egyptian groups such as Elsewedy, Orascom, Hassan Allam and Talaat Moustafa pay construction and infrastructure project managers in the middle to upper part of the ranges, often with site allowances on top.

Government and public sector basic pay is lower, though project allowances on New Administrative Capital and infrastructure programs can close part of the gap, and the PMP matters most there when the role sits with a contractor or a consultant rather than the ministry itself. Startups and SMEs are the widest spread of all, from very modest salaries to equity heavy packages in fintech.

Cairo, Alexandria and the Suez Canal zone

Greater Cairo pays the most, simply because the head offices, the banks and the multinationals are there. Alexandria postings for the same title typically come in noticeably lower, with the exception of petrochemical, port and logistics projects along the coast. The Suez Canal Economic Zone is the interesting one: industrial and logistics projects in Ain Sokhna and East Port Said often carry hardship or site allowances that bring total pay level with Cairo, and the number of foreign investors there means the PMP is understood and asked for.

What is driving demand

Five things, in our reading of the postings our learners bring us. The Suez Canal Economic Zone with its factories, ports and green fuel projects. The New Administrative Capital and the contractors and consultants delivering it. Export manufacturing in 10th of Ramadan, 6th of October City and the newer industrial zones, where multinational plants want PMI vocabulary. Tourism and aviation capacity, from hotel pipelines to EgyptAir and Cairo Airport programs. And digital banking and fintech, where the push on electronic payments has created a steady stream of hybrid delivery roles. Egypt Vision 2030 sits behind most of these as the policy frame.

Job titles that ask for the PMP in Egypt

Project Manager and Senior Project Manager are the obvious ones. Add Program Manager, PMO Manager and PMO Analyst, Delivery Manager, Transformation or Change Lead, Construction Project Manager, IT or ERP Project Manager, and in engineering firms the Planning Engineer and Project Controls roles that sit just below the PM. When you read postings, look for "PMP preferred" as well as "PMP required"; in Cairo the preferred wording still filters CVs in practice.

The Gulf angle

A large share of our Cairo PMP learners are preparing for a move to the Gulf or for remote contracts with Gulf clients, and salary is the reason. Project manager roles there are typically paid in dollar linked currencies at a multiple of Cairo pay, and the PMP is close to a default requirement in Gulf postings, so it works as the ticket to be considered rather than as a bonus. For those who stay in Egypt, remote delivery work for Gulf companies has become a real middle path: Cairo cost of living, foreign currency income, and the PMP as the credential the client's procurement team recognizes.

How to use these numbers

Benchmark yourself against the table, then against three or four live postings for your exact title and sector. If you are below the band, the PMP plus a documented record of delivered projects is the strongest case you can take into a review. If you are already at the top of your band, the uplift will come from changing employer or sector, not from the certificate alone, and the certification's real value is mobility.

Our honest take on that question is in Is PMP worth it in Egypt, and the spending side is in PMP certification cost in Egypt. If your target is a PMO or portfolio role, our self paced Mastering Program, Portfolio and PMO Leadership course is the natural step after the PMP preparation course. Frequently asked questions

What is the average PMP salary in Egypt?

There is no reliable single average, and anyone quoting one is guessing. Salary surveys and job postings at the time of writing show project managers in Egypt earning roughly EGP 30,000 to 110,000 a month depending on employer type, with senior and program roles at multinationals and banks reaching EGP 90,000 to 180,000 or more. Sector and city matter more than the certificate alone.

How much more do PMP certified project managers earn in Egypt?

PMI's global survey has reported a double digit percentage premium for PMP holders worldwide, but there is no reliably measured Egypt figure. In Cairo the practical effect is being shortlisted, joining at a higher grade at banks and multinationals, and winning internal promotions to senior project manager roles.

Do project managers in Alexandria earn less than in Cairo?

Typically yes for the same title, because the head offices and multinationals are concentrated in Greater Cairo. Exceptions are the petrochemical, port and logistics projects on the coast, and the Suez Canal Economic Zone, where site and hardship allowances often bring total pay level with Cairo.

Which sectors in Egypt pay PMP holders the most?

Multinationals and shared service centers, banks such as CIB, NBE and Banque Misr, telecoms and fintech, and the large engineering and construction groups. Government basic pay is lower, though project allowances on major programs can narrow the gap when the role sits with a contractor or consultant.

Does the PMP help Egyptians get project manager jobs in the Gulf?

It is close to a baseline requirement in Gulf postings for project manager roles, so it opens the door rather than adding a bonus. Many Cairo based holders also take remote delivery contracts with Gulf clients, combining Egyptian living costs with foreign currency income.
