Aviation Management Courses in India: Five Short Programmes, and Why None of Them Is an MBA

Read this first. Most people who search for "aviation management courses in India" want a degree: an MBA, a BBA or a university diploma in aviation management, with a campus, a two- or three-year timetable and campus placement. We do not offer any of those. The five courses below are self-paced professional programmes of 45 to 69 guided hours with Blue Ocean certificates of completion. They suit working aviation professionals and people who want to understand the industry before committing to it; they do not replace a degree for someone whose employer or ambition requires one.

The short answer

If you already work in aviation and want to think like a manager about airports, airlines, retail or technology, take Strategic Aviation, Aviation in the AI Era or Duty Free Management, depending on your corner of the industry. If you are deciding whether aviation is for you, Aviation Career Foundations is the honest first step. Everyone in the industry should take Ethics in Aviation at some point, because the safety-versus-commercial-pressure problem is the industry's permanent one. If you want a degree, read the next section and then go to a university.

Degree or short course: who each serves

A degree (MBA, BBA, university diploma)A short self-paced course
TimeTwo to three years, mostly full time45 to 69 guided hours, at your pace
Who it suitsSchool leavers and early graduates who want campus recruitment into airlines and airportsWorking professionals who need a specific capability now; people testing the industry before committing
What you getAn academic qualification, a campus, a networkA targeted capability and a certificate of completion
What it costsYears and feesWeeks and a rupee tuition on the course page
What it does not doTeach a specific managerial skill quicklyReplace a degree where one is required

The two are complementary. A manager with a degree takes a short course to learn airport commercial strategy; a graduate without one takes Aviation Career Foundations to decide whether to pursue a degree or an entry role. Neither route is a shortcut to the other.

The five courses

Mastering Strategic Aviation (45 hours). The global aviation industry's structure, economics and value chains; the strategic aviation ecosystem; strategic airport operations and facilitation; airline strategy and network economics; passenger handling excellence; airline turnaround time and ground operations; baggage handling strategy and chain performance; baggage tracking, automation and off-airport processing; analytical tools for aviation performance; airport commercial strategy covering retail, food and beverage, parking, advertising and property; and the aerotropolis. For managers who need the business view of the airport and the airline together. Course page. The operational IATA course for airports is covered in airport operations courses in India.

Mastering Aviation in the AI Era (48 hours). The digital aviation ecosystem; AI and machine learning fundamentals for aviation; AI in aviation operations; aviation data types, sources and importance; analytics and decision-making; predictive maintenance and machine learning models; smart airports; automation and integrated operations management; AI in air traffic management and flight safety; AI-powered passenger experience; and sustainable aviation. Mastering Airports Duty Free Management (47 hours). For airport retail professionals, duty-free teams and commercial managers. Course page.

Mastering Ethics in Aviation (45 hours, Foundation level). Course page.

Aviation Career Foundations (69 hours). How airlines and airports actually work, from the departure gate to the cabin to the recruitment room: the aviation ecosystem, terminology, the future of aviation careers, the passenger journey, check-in and departure control, boarding gates, special passengers and irregular operations, the real role of cabin crew and the working day, cabin crew service and difficult situations, safety culture, security, dangerous goods, emergency and medical awareness, and customer service. For anyone entering commercial aviation who wants to understand it before applying anywhere. It is a Blue Ocean programme, not an IATA course; our IATA courses, including the cabin crew course, are described in IATA course entry requirements in India and the cabin crew course explainer.
