Working at a port or economic zone in Oman: which CILT electives should you ask about?
If you coordinate cargo, storage or transport at a port or in a special economic zone in Oman, ask an advisor about the diploma's electives in warehousing, transport planning and freight.
The Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm manages the Duqm zone, set up by Royal Decree 119/2011, which includes a port, dry dock and airport. Since August 2020 the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones has overseen the Duqm, Al Mazunah, Salalah and Sohar zones under Royal Decree 105/2020. Name your zone and your duties when you ask.

- International Diploma in Logistics and Transport, live online: for mid level logistics and transport professionals, supply chain executives and supervisors, freight and warehouse professionals, and transport and distribution coordinators who want the CILT diploma. It does not suit you if you need to study alone at your own pace.
- International Certificate in Logistics and Transport, live online: for logistics coordinators, supervisors in logistics and transport, logistics professionals and freight forwarding executives.
- Self paced certificates: for distribution, trade, quality, shipping and leadership roles, and for people whose shifts make fixed sessions hard. They do not suit someone who needs a live group to keep going.
The Certificate in International Trading is another one to look at if your desk handles export and import files, and trade finance and banking officers also appear on its list of roles.

How do you prepare for CILT while working in Oman?
Ask an advisor how long the diploma takes, then book your study hours before the first session. For a self paced certificate, the course page lists about 45 hours of study, or about 46 for Supply Chain Leadership.
Treat assignments as the part to protect. Pick a process you manage, such as receiving, dispatch or customs release, and keep notes on it from day one. Those notes give you real examples to study from.
