CIPS Level 3 Advanced Certificate: The Complete 2026 Guide
The CIPS Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations is designed, in CIPS's words, "for those already in a delivering role" who want "to improve fundamental skills", the intermediate step that prepares learners "to progress onto the CIPS Level 4 Diploma." It is also the first CIPS level with elective modules, letting you lean toward procurement or supply chain.
Who it is for and entry requirements
CIPS sets no formal entry requirements at Level 3; it suits those with "some experience in a business environment" who work at the tactical level and are moving toward operational responsibility. Level 3 is a recognised route into the Level 4 Diploma and carries 16 UCAS tariff points.
The modules: 30 credits
Four core modules (24 credits) plus one elective (6 credits); every module is 6 credits, 60 hours of learning and a 2 hour Objective Response exam with a 70% pass mark:
- L3M1 Procurement and Supply Environments, the environments procurement operates in and the external factors that shape success
- L3M2 Ethical Procurement and Supply, ethics, each stage of the sourcing process, and measuring operational performance
- L3M3 Contract Administration, contract development processes, contract performance, competitive pricing and effective tendering
- L3M4 Team Dynamics and Change, how people and teams influence success; achieving organisational change
- Elective: L3M5 Socially Responsible Procurement (procurement pathway) or L3M6 Socially Responsible Warehousing and Distribution (supply chain pathway)
Time and study
Total Qualification Time is 300 hours, 200 guided learning, 90 self study and 10 exam hours, and CIPS recommends "allowing up to 12 months." At Blue Ocean Academy the program is tutor led at an approved study centre, in classroom batches across the Gulf and India and live online, with exams sat at CIPS venues or by remote invigilation.
