What does the CPIM exam involve for someone working in Qatar?
CPIM version 8.0 is one exam of 150 questions over 3.5 hours, scaled from 200 to 350, and you need 300 to pass. It has been a single exam since 2023.
Read the ten content areas against your own job and mark the ones you have never handled yourself.
- Supply chains and strategy, and quality and continuous improvement: the wider frame around planning.
- Demand, and sales and operations planning: how demand estimates turn into plans.
- Master scheduling, MRP and capacity: the production side.
- Inventory and distribution: stock policy and how goods reach customers.
- Technology: the systems used for planning.
Book a day when you can give the full 3.5 hours your attention, and choose between a Pearson VUE test center and an online proctored sitting based on what the locator shows for Qatar.
Plan the preparation around your working week in Qatar, not around the exam date. Ask an advisor how long the CPIM course takes, then work backwards from the day you want to sit the exam.
Once you hold the credential, ASCM asks for 75 points every 5 years to maintain it.
Do you need experience to sit CPIM in Qatar?
No. ASCM lists no formal eligibility requirement for CPIM and recommends experience. Confirm the current rules with ASCM, because they can change.
If you are Qatari, read Law No. 12 of 2024 as Clyde and Co summarizes it. The law requires employers to train Qatari staff, so ask your HR team whether CPIM can sit inside that training. If you are newer to planning, ask an advisor which exam topics will be new to you before you pay.
If you have never worked with stock levels, demand plans or production schedules, ask an advisor whether CPIM or another course below fits where you are now.
Which supply chain roles in Qatar fit CPIM?
CPIM fits people who plan demand, stock and production. If your work is moving freight, look at the logistics course further down this page.
The Qatar Free Zones Authority describes Ras Bufontas, the airport free zone connected to Hamad International Airport, as set up to support logistics operations for time sensitive products. It also describes Umm Alhoul, the sea port free zone beside Hamad Port, as intended to give international freight forwarders access to the chemical, oil and gas, and heavy machinery industries. If you plan inventory or schedule supply into operations like these, the CPIM areas on inventory, distribution and master scheduling line up with your work.
- Inventory or demand planner: the demand, sales and operations planning, and inventory areas are your daily work.
- Operations or production manager: master scheduling, MRP and capacity are the heart of your role.
- Freight forwarding or transport coordinator: look at the logistics course further down this page, which is listed for freight and operations coordinators.
What does CPIM cost in Qatar?
Blue Ocean's live online Certified in Planning and Inventory Management course is USD 4,200. The exam is separate from the course fee, so ask an advisor what it costs.
If you want a room rather than a screen, ask an advisor about arranging a class in Qatar, or about studying at a Blue Ocean office in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Riyadh. The live online price above applies to that format only, so ask an advisor about the other formats.
CPIM or another course: which one for your Qatar role?
Choose CPIM when planning and inventory are your core work. Choose another course when your role sits across the chain or in transport.
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (live online, USD 4,600): for supply chain professionals, procurement and sourcing specialists, and logistics and operations managers.
- Supply Chain Planning Certificate (live online, USD 2,400): for operations and production planning staff, procurement and inventory personnel, and warehouse and distribution professionals.
- Mastering Demand Forecasting and Inventory Management (self paced, USD 599, about 46 hours of study): a Professional level course for demand planners and inventory managers. It is separate from CPIM and does not lead to the CPIM designation.
If your work is freight, transport or distribution, Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution is the ASCM course to look at instead of CPIM.
