PHRi Certification Cost in Egypt: Exam Fees, Training and Total Budget in EGP

Read this guide in Arabic: اقرأ بالعربية

When someone in Cairo asks us what PHRi costs, they usually expect one number. It depends on the route. Study alone and you pay HRCI directly in US dollars. Train with us and there is one bill in Egyptian pounds, because our fee includes the course, the exam and the certification fee, as the course page states. Then there are the smaller items that catch people out two or three years later. This article lays out all of it so you can budget properly, or so you can put a clean figure in front of your HR director when you ask for sponsorship.

What HRCI charges if you pay it directly

HRCI, the HR Certification Institute, charges two fees for the Professional in Human Resources International (PHRi). At the time of writing, its official PHRi page lists an exam fee of about USD 395 and an application fee of about USD 100, so about USD 495 in total. At roughly 50 EGP per USD, that is close to EGP 24,750. That is what a self study candidate pays HRCI; on our program it is already inside the EGP price.

Two things matter for Egyptian candidates here. First, the fee is charged in dollars on an international card, so the EGP figure moves with the exchange rate between the day you budget and the day you pay. Second, once HRCI approves your application the exam fee is not refunded, even if you withdraw. Apply when you are ready to commit, not when you are curious.

There is no separate Pearson VUE fee for sitting the exam at a center in Cairo or online through OnVUE; that is covered by the exam fee. There is no membership fee either, because HRCI is a certification body, not a membership association.

What you pay for training in EGP

HRCI does not require a course, and it does not accredit or approve training providers. Blue Ocean Academy is a Certification Prep Provider for HRCI exams, and our prices are set in Egyptian pounds. The course page shows the EGP price automatically to visitors from Egypt, so what you see online is what you pay.

At the time of writing, our Egypt prices for the PHRi program are:

  • Live online with an instructor, or classroom at our New Cairo office when a batch is scheduled: EGP 56,200
  • Self paced: EGP 66,399, discounted from a standard price of EGP 132,799

Yes, the live option is currently the cheaper of the two, and most of our Cairo learners choose it for exactly that reason plus the trainer contact. The self paced option suits people who travel a lot for work, for example plant HR staff rotating through Ain Sokhna or East Port Said, who cannot commit to fixed evening sessions. Either way, the fee includes the course, the exam and the certification fee, as the course page states; the practice question bank and the exam application support are the two things learners tell us they valued most.

Total budget table in EGP

Here is the whole picture in one place. All figures are approximate and at the time of writing; the USD items are converted at roughly 50 EGP per USD.

If you are coming from Alexandria, Damietta or the Suez Canal zone and prefer a test center, add a day in Cairo for the exam. Many of our learners outside Greater Cairo simply take the online proctored exam instead. Our PHRi exam in Egypt guide explains both options.

The costs people forget

A retake. If you do not pass, you pay HRCI the exam fee again, about USD 395 or roughly EGP 19,750 at the time of writing, after a waiting period set by HRCI. Check the current retake policy on hrci.org, because it also governs whether the application fee is charged again. This single line item is the best argument for preparing properly the first time.

Renewal every three years. PHRi is valid for three years. To keep it you earn 60 recertification credits and pay HRCI a recertification fee, about USD 169 for one certification at the time of writing, roughly EGP 8,450. Miss the deadline and the credential goes into a suspended period with an extra fee. Our PHRi renewal guide explains the credit categories; a good share of credits can be earned through free webinars and on the job projects, so renewal is more about discipline than money.

Exchange rate drift. Everything paid to HRCI is in USD. If your plan runs over a year, budget a margin on the dollar items.

How employer sponsorship changes the math

In Cairo, HR teams at banks such as CIB, NBE and Banque Misr, at multinational shared service centers in New Cairo and Smart Village, and at large Egyptian groups usually have a training budget, and PHRi is a recognizable line to put in it. We have seen three common arrangements.

Full sponsorship, where the company pays our EGP invoice, which already covers the HRCI exam, so there is no dollar payment to reimburse. Pass based reimbursement, where you pay first and the company refunds you once you send the pass result. And split arrangements, where the employer covers part of the fee and you cover the rest as your own stake in it.

When you ask, make it easy to say yes. Give your manager the table above, mention that exams are at Pearson VUE in Cairo so there is no travel abroad, and tie it to something the business cares about right now, for example the recent Egyptian labor law changes or an HR transformation project. If your company prefers to train a group, we run corporate batches live online or at the client site, and we can invoice in EGP.

Is the spend justified?

A total of EGP 56,200, exam included, is a serious sum in Egypt; for a mid level HR specialist it can be close to two months of salary. Whether it pays back depends on your career stage and on where you want to work next. We have written an honest view in Is PHRi worth it in Egypt, and you should confirm you actually qualify by reading the PHRi requirements and eligibility article before spending anything. Frequently asked questions

How much does the PHRi exam cost in Egypt in EGP?

HRCI charges in US dollars, not pounds. At the time of writing the exam fee is about USD 395 and the application fee about USD 100, together roughly EGP 24,750 at around 50 EGP per USD. The exact EGP amount depends on your bank's exchange rate on the day you pay. That is the self study cost; on our program the exam is included in the fee, as the course page states.

What does the Blue Ocean PHRi course cost in Egypt?

At the time of writing, the live online or classroom option in New Cairo is EGP 56,200, and the self paced option is EGP 66,399 after the current discount from a standard EGP 132,799. The course page shows these EGP prices to visitors from Egypt and states that the fee includes the course, examination and certification fees, so you do not pay HRCI separately for your first attempt.

Is there a Pearson VUE or test center fee on top of the HRCI exam fee?

No. The HRCI exam fee covers delivery at a Pearson VUE authorized test center in Greater Cairo or online through OnVUE. You may face a fee if you reschedule very late or miss your appointment, so read the rescheduling rules when you book.

How much does it cost to renew PHRi?

PHRi is valid for three years. At the time of writing HRCI's recertification fee is about USD 169 for one certification, roughly EGP 8,450, plus the 60 recertification credits you must earn during the cycle. Many credits can be earned at no cost through webinars and workplace projects.

Can I pay HRCI fees with an Egyptian bank card?

If you pay HRCI directly, for self study, a retake or renewal, usually yes, if the card is enabled for international USD payments. Some Egyptian debit cards have foreign currency limits or block overseas merchants by default, so check with your bank first. Credit cards from the large Egyptian banks with international use switched on normally work.
