The short answer

Run a warehouse: start with Warehousing and Distribution, add the ASCM Supply Chain Warehousing Certificate if your employer values the ASCM name, and take CIWIM when you want a management designation. Plan demand and inventory: start with Demand Forecasting and Inventory Management, then CPIM, which is the planning credential most multinational job descriptions name. Sit between the two, as many Indian operations roles do: take the planning course first, because inventory decisions drive warehouse workload rather than the other way round.

The roles these courses serve

Warehousing and planning are two sides of one problem: having the right stock in the right place at the right cost. In Indian operations the roles split roughly like this.

  • Warehouse supervisor or manager: receiving, put-away, storage, picking, packing, dispatch, labour and space productivity, safety, inventory accuracy.
  • Inventory controller or analyst: stock policies, cycle counting, ABC and VED segmentation, excess and obsolete stock, accuracy metrics.
  • Demand planner: forecasting, forecast accuracy and bias, collaborative planning, S&OP inputs.
  • Supply or material planner, master scheduler: MRP, capacity, schedules, supplier coordination.
  • Distribution and fulfilment lead: network positioning, order fulfilment speed and accuracy, last-mile integration.
  • 3PL operations staff: all of the above for a client's stock, with SLAs on top.

Pick the course for the job you do or want next, not for the most impressive title.

Course by course

Warehousing and Distribution (47 hours, self-paced)

The programme connects warehouse flow to inventory positioning and distribution readiness. Eighteen modules move from the strategic role of warehousing through end-to-end warehouse and distribution flow design, location and network strategy, aligning inventory positioning with distribution, forecasting and inventory optimisation models, high-accuracy inventory systems, order fulfilment speed and accuracy, productivity and transport efficiency, to last-mile and outbound integration. It is written for warehouse, logistics, inventory and supply chain professionals who need faster and more accurate operations. Course page.

Demand Forecasting and Inventory Management (46 hours, self-paced)

Nineteen modules on the planning side: demand classification, qualitative and quantitative methods, time-series forecasting with trend, seasonality and smoothing, forecast error and bias monitoring, collaborative demand planning and S&OP, inventory fundamentals and costs, ABC and VED segmentation, and policy design for service level and cost. For demand planners, inventory controllers and anyone whose forecast the business plans around. Course page.

Certified International Warehouse and Inventory Manager (IPSCMI)

A designation rather than a programme certificate. The course covers warehouse operations management, inventory planning and stock control, layout and storage optimisation, logistics coordination and inventory accuracy techniques, and prepares you for IPSCMI's examination. IPSCMI designations are examined and are kept by recertifying every five years; IPSCMI makes no claim of third-party accreditation and neither do we on its behalf. For warehouse and inventory managers leading teams, space and stock. Course page. The IPSCMI supply chain ladder is explained in CISCP and CISCM certification in India.

ASCM Supply Chain Warehousing Certificate

An ASCM certificate programme in seven parts: warehousing and logistics overview, operating a safe workplace, creating a secure workplace, measurement and conversion, inventory and warehouse management, evaluation of transportation modes, and environmental sustainability in warehousing and distribution. Delivered live online. It is an ASCM certificate, not an ASCM designation; it does not carry letters after your name the way CPIM does. For warehouse and logistics staff who want ASCM-badged fundamentals and a route toward CPIM or CLTD. Course page.

ASCM Supply Chain Planning Certificate

Six parts: what synchronised planning is, business planning, demand planning and S&OP, tactical planning (master scheduling, MRP, capacity management), operations execution (purchasing and production activity control, advanced planning systems) and supplier risk management. For planners, buyers and inventory staff who want ASCM-badged planning knowledge before committing to the CPIM exam. Course page.

CPIM (ASCM)

The designation for planning and inventory professionals. Eight modules: supply chains and strategy, sales and operations planning, demand, supply, detailed schedules, inventory, distribution, and quality, technology and continuous improvement. Since 1 June 2026 CPIM is a single exam of 150 questions in 3.5 hours, sat at a Pearson VUE test centre or online through OnVUE; ASCM states no eligibility requirement; holders maintain the designation with 75 points every five years. Our live online preparation includes the self-paced study option. Course page; detail in the CPIM explainer.

Certificate versus designation

A certificate of completion (our two self-paced programmes) evidences that you completed the course and its assessment. An ASCM certificate evidences completion of an ASCM-designed certificate programme. A designation (CIWIM, CPIM) is awarded by the certifying body after you pass its examination and can be used after your name, and must be maintained. Employers read these differently; be clear which you are buying. None of them is a university qualification.

How planning connects to warehousing

Most warehouse problems in India are planning problems arriving at the dock: forecasts that were too optimistic, safety stock set by habit, replenishment that ignores lead-time variability. That is why we recommend planners and warehouse managers learn each other's language. The Warehousing and Distribution programme includes a module on forecasting and inventory optimisation; the Demand Forecasting programme includes warehouse-facing inventory policy. If you can only take one, take the one for your current job and read the other's outline.

Formats and delivery in India

Self-paced programmes run on our learning platform with the guided hours shown. CIWIM, the ASCM certificates and CPIM preparation run live online in cohorts with recordings and a self-paced option. The CPIM exam is sat at Pearson VUE centres across India or via OnVUE; seat availability appears only when you schedule, so we do not promise a named centre. Advisors are available in person at our New Delhi, Noida, Pune, Hyderabad and Kochi centres; learners in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata study online. Tuition is shown in Indian rupees on course pages for visitors in India; ASCM and IPSCMI exam fees are separate.

Choosing, in four questions

  1. Do you run the warehouse or plan the stock? Warehouse: Warehousing and Distribution. Stock: Demand Forecasting and Inventory Management.
  2. Do you need a designation? Warehousing management: CIWIM. Planning and inventory: CPIM.
  3. Does your employer value ASCM specifically? Then the ASCM certificates and CPIM.
  4. How much time do you have now? The self-paced programmes are 46 to 47 hours at your pace; CPIM is a cohort plus one exam you schedule.
