Airline or airport work: which aviation course in Bahrain fits you?
Three kinds of work are worth knowing about. Gulf Air Group Holding Company is the sole shareholder of Gulf Air, Bahrain Airport Company and Gulf Aviation Academy.
That gives you three directions to think about: airline work, airport work and aviation training. Pick the course that matches your direction.
- For airline work, look at Airline Cabin Crew (IATA course, USD 1,400) or Mastering Aviation Customer Experience (self paced, USD 599).
- For airport work, look at Airport Operations Fundamentals (IATA course, USD 1,400) or Airport Ramp Services (IATA course, USD 1,500).
The IATA courses here (Airline Cabin Crew, Passenger Ground Service Agent, Airport Operations Fundamentals, Airport Ramp Services and Foundation in Travel and Tourism Diploma) run online or through the Authorized Training Center in Dubai only.
Licensed work is a separate matter. Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs, under the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, issues licenses, permits and operational certifications. Our cabin crew course ends in a certificate of completion, not a license, so ask Civil Aviation Affairs about any license you need.
Which course should you take first if you have never worked in aviation?
Start with Fundamentals of Aviation. It is free and self paced, and the course page lists about 47 hours of study.
It suits students, recent graduates and airport service staff. After it, choose a role course. Passenger Ground Service Agent (IATA course, USD 1,400) is for airport and airline customer service agents, and Aviation Career Foundations (self paced, USD 399, about 69 hours of study) is for cabin crew applicants preparing for assessment days.
Which aviation courses help you move up from a ground or airline role?
Choose by the team you want to lead. Mastering Strategic Aviation is written for airport managers and operations leaders, while Mastering Airport Operations is written for operations managers and airport professionals.
- Mastering Airport Operations: self paced, USD 399, about 45 hours of study.
- Mastering Strategic Aviation: self paced, USD 599, about 45 hours of study.
- Mastering Aviation in AI Era: self paced, USD 599, about 48 hours of study, for aviation professionals and operations managers.
- Mastering Ethics in Aviation: free, self paced, about 45 hours of study, for safety and compliance personnel and aviation managers.
If you work in ground handling, ramp or baggage and are moving into supervision, Aviation Career Foundations lists you in its audience.
Can you switch to aviation from hospitality or another field?
Two courses list audiences you may fit. Foundation in Travel and Tourism Diploma (IATA course, USD 1,600) lists entry level tourism and hospitality professionals and travel agency and airline service candidates.
Mastering Aviation Customer Experience lists hospitality professionals and customer service teams. It costs USD 599 and is self paced.
What should you know about Tamkeen before you enroll?
Tamkeen is a program to check if you are Bahraini. Tamkeen, Bahrain's Labour Fund, offers job seekers training, professional certification and wage support, and its National Employment Program 2.0 gives wage support to Bahraini job seekers and fresh graduates registered with the Ministry of Labour.
Check your own eligibility with Tamkeen directly.
Which aviation course should you choose?
Match the course to the job you do today or the job you want next. Use this list to narrow it down.
- Fresh graduate with no airport experience: Fundamentals of Aviation (free).
- Aiming at cabin crew: Airline Cabin Crew, then Aviation Career Foundations for assessment day preparation.
- Working at check in or boarding: Passenger Ground Service Agent.
- Working on the ramp: Airport Ramp Services.
- Running airport or airline teams: Mastering Strategic Aviation.
Mastering Strategic Aviation names aviation professionals, airport managers and operations leaders, so if this would be your first job, ask an advisor whether it fits your experience. Airline Cabin Crew does not suit someone who wants an operations management role.
