CIPS Exam in Egypt: Format, Test Centers and How to Book

Read this guide in Arabic: اقرأ بالعربية

Knowing the syllabus is half of CIPS. The other half is knowing exactly how and where you will be tested, because the logistics in Egypt trip up more candidates than the content does. This guide covers the structure of the Level 4 exams, where you sit them in Greater Cairo or from home, how to book through CIPS, the ID rules that catch Egyptians out, and what to do when something goes wrong on the day.

How the Level 4 exams are structured

The CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply is assessed module by module. There is no single final exam. You pass eight separate module exams, in whatever order and over whatever period suits you, and the diploma is awarded once all eight are done.

At the time of writing the eight modules split into two formats. Six of them (L4M2, L4M3, L4M4, L4M5, L4M6 and L4M7) are objective response exams: 90 minutes of multiple choice questions, marked by computer. Two of them (L4M1 Scope and Influence of Procurement and Supply, and L4M8 Procurement and Supply in Practice) are constructed response exams: three hours of written answers to questions built around a case study or scenario, marked by CIPS examiners.

CIPS sets the pass standard for each exam and reports your result as a grade rather than a raw percentage. A fail in one module does not touch your other results; you simply resit that module. Exams are in English only, and there is no Arabic version or translation aid.

The practical consequence for your planning: the six objective response modules are about recall, breadth and speed, while L4M1 and L4M8 are about applying the whole syllabus to a scenario in writing. Candidates in our Cairo classes almost always underestimate the second type. Three hours of structured writing in English is a skill, and it needs practice well before exam day.

Where you sit the exam in Egypt

CIPS exams are booked through CIPS and delivered by Pearson VUE, either at an authorized test center or online with a remote invigilator. In Greater Cairo the test center most of our candidates use is on the American University in Cairo campus in New Cairo, a short drive from our Fifth Settlement office. Other Pearson VUE centers operate in Cairo and in other Egyptian cities from time to time, so check the Pearson VUE center locator for availability on your chosen date rather than assuming.

The online option is sat from home or an office with a webcam, a quiet room, a clean desk and stable internet. It is convenient, but it is also where most exam day problems happen in Egypt, for reasons we come back to below.

One clarification, because the question comes up often. Blue Ocean does not administer CIPS exams. Some of the other programs we run, such as the Certified International Procurement Professional from IPSCMI, have exams arranged through us. CIPS is different: you book and sit through CIPS and Pearson VUE, in your own name, and we prepare you for it. Confirm the current status of any provider on cips.org if anyone tells you otherwise.

How to book, step by step

  1. Make sure your CIPS student membership is active. Without it the booking screens stay locked. Our eligibility guide for Egypt covers getting that far.
  2. Log in to your CIPS account, register for the module and pay the exam fee in GBP by card.
  3. Choose your exam window. CIPS publishes a timetable of exam series through the year; objective response modules usually have more frequent sittings than constructed response ones.
  4. Pick a test center and time slot, or the online option, through the Pearson VUE scheduling link in your CIPS account. Popular Cairo slots fill early in each window, so book as soon as registration opens.
  5. Save the confirmation email. If you chose online, run the Pearson VUE system test on the exact computer and internet connection you will use.

ID rules that catch Egyptian candidates

Pearson VUE will check a valid, unexpired government ID and the name on it must match the name on your CIPS booking. For Egyptians this is the single most common exam day failure, and it is avoidable.

Our standing advice is to bring your passport. The name appears in Latin letters, in a fixed order, and that is what you should have typed into your CIPS profile from day one. The Egyptian national ID card is in Arabic only, and while some centers can accept it, you are relying on a transliteration match. We would not take that risk for an exam you paid for in GBP. If your passport is expired or being renewed, contact CIPS before the exam, not on the morning.

Leave your phone, smartwatch, notes and bag in the locker. For the constructed response exams you type your answers, so get used to drafting on a keyboard rather than on paper.

Exam day tips from our Cairo classes

For a morning slot at AUC New Cairo, leave earlier than your maps app suggests. Ring Road and Suez Road traffic toward the Fifth Settlement is unpredictable, and arriving flustered costs marks. Candidates coming from Giza, 6th of October City or Alexandria often stay with family in New Cairo the night before, which is a sensible habit.

In objective response exams, answer every question. Flag the ones you are unsure of and come back; do not sit on one question for four minutes. In constructed response exams, spend the first few minutes planning each answer, use the command word in the question (evaluate, explain, compare) to shape the structure, and tie every point back to the scenario. Generic textbook answers score poorly, and that is the mistake our trainers correct most often.

Rescheduling, cancellations and when online proctoring fails

CIPS and Pearson VUE set deadlines for rescheduling or canceling, and fees or forfeits apply once you pass them. Read the terms in your confirmation email the day you book, not the week of the exam.

Online proctoring fails for Egyptian candidates in predictable ways: a power cut, a mobile hotspot that drops during check in, a family member walking in, or a laptop that fails the system test on the day. If it happens, stay calm and do three things. Contact Pearson VUE support immediately through the channel in your confirmation, note the case or incident number, and email CIPS the same day with that number and a short factual account. Keep screenshots. Most genuine technical failures get a rebook, but only if you report them properly.

Our prevention list is short. Use a wired connection or a very reliable fiber line, keep a charged laptop and a backup hotspot, test the night before on the same machine, and tell the household the exam time. If your home setup is not dependable, book a test center. Three hours of L4M8 is not the moment to discover that your building's generator does not cover your apartment.

After the exam

Objective response results tend to arrive faster than constructed response results, which need human marking; CIPS publishes the expected result dates for each series. Use the gap to start the next module rather than waiting. For a module by module study rhythm that works around Cairo working hours, see our guide on passing the CIPS exam on your first attempt. The full budget for exam fees and tuition sits in our CIPS cost guide for Egypt, and the rest of the series is on the CIPS guides for Egypt hub.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I sit the CIPS exam in Egypt?

At a Pearson VUE authorized test center, including the one on the American University in Cairo campus in New Cairo, or online from home with a remote invigilator. Availability changes, so check the Pearson VUE locator for your date and book early in each exam window. Blue Ocean does not administer CIPS exams; you book through your CIPS account.

How long is each CIPS Level 4 exam?

At the time of writing the six objective response modules are 90 minute multiple choice exams, and the two constructed response modules, L4M1 and L4M8, are three hour written exams. Each module is passed separately, so a fail in one does not affect the others.

Is the CIPS exam available in Arabic?

No. All CIPS exams are set and answered in English, with no translation aid. Our Cairo learners who are less confident in written English spend extra time practicing constructed response answers under timed conditions before booking L4M1 or L4M8.

Which ID do I need for the CIPS exam in Cairo?

Bring a valid passport whose name matches your CIPS booking exactly. The Egyptian national ID is in Arabic only, so you would be relying on a transliteration match, which we do not recommend. If your passport is expired, speak to CIPS before exam day.

What happens if my online CIPS exam disconnects?

Contact Pearson VUE support straight away through the channel in your confirmation email, record the incident number and email CIPS the same day with a short factual account. Genuine technical failures are usually rebooked when reported properly. To reduce the risk, use a wired connection, test the night before and keep a backup hotspot.

Can I reschedule a CIPS exam?

Yes, within the deadlines CIPS and Pearson VUE set, and usually without penalty if you act early. Once you pass the cut off, fees or forfeits apply. Read the terms in your confirmation email on the day you book.
