CSCP Certification Requirements and Eligibility in Egypt

CSCP Certification Requirements and Eligibility in Egypt

Read this guide in Arabic: اقرأ بالعربية

Every week someone writes to our Cairo office with the same worry: "I do not have a supply chain degree, can I still sit the CSCP?" The short answer, at the time of writing, is yes. The longer answer is worth ten minutes of your time, because the rules changed, many guides still show the old ones, and the mistakes we see Egyptian applicants make are rarely about eligibility at all. They are about names, timing and paperwork.

What ASCM actually requires today

The Certified Supply Chain Professional credential is issued by ASCM, the Association for Supply Chain Management (formerly APICS) in the United States. When we checked ASCM's CSCP page while writing this, it listed no formal eligibility requirement to purchase or sit the exam. You create an ASCM account, buy the exam or a bundle, receive an authorization to test and book your seat at Pearson VUE.

That surprises people, because for years CSCP had a gate. You needed one of the following: three years of related business experience, a bachelor's degree or an international equivalent, or an active credential such as CPIM, CLTD, CTL, CFPIM, CIRM, C.P.M., CSM or CPSM. Older brochures, company HR policies and even some training providers in Egypt still quote this list as if it were current.

Our advice is simple. Treat the old rule as a readiness benchmark rather than a legal gate. If you would not have qualified under it, you can still register, but you should plan more study time. And always confirm the live rule on ascm.org on the day you pay, because certification bodies do revise their policies.

How Egyptian degrees and experience are treated

Because ASCM does not ask you to upload documents at registration, your Cairo University, Ain Shams, Alexandria University, AASTMT, GUC or AUC degree is never "evaluated" the way it would be for a visa or an academic admission. There is no equivalency letter to obtain and nothing to attest at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Where documents do matter is with employers and with audits. ASCM reserves the right to verify the information in a candidate's account. If your account claims experience you cannot show, that is where a problem could surface. Keep a clean English or bilingual HR letter on file that states your job title, dates and a one line description of your supply chain duties. Most Egyptian HR departments issue these in Arabic by default; ask for the English version, or have a certified translator do it. Multinationals in Smart Village, Maadi and New Cairo will usually issue it in English without being asked.

The second place documents matter is sponsorship. Banks such as CIB, NBE and Banque Misr, and large groups such as Elsewedy, Orascom and Hassan Allam, often require a training request with proof that you meet the certifying body's criteria before they approve a budget. Here the old three option rule tends to live on inside company policy. If your learning and development team asks for it, show them the current ASCM page alongside your degree and HR letter and let them decide.

The application steps, in order

  1. Create an ASCM account using your name exactly as printed in your passport, in Roman letters. Not your nickname, not the shortened version on your business card, and not a different transliteration from the one on your national ID.
  2. Decide on membership. ASCM membership with the certification upgrade (roughly USD 199 to 220 per year at the time of writing) lowers the exam and Learning System fees if you buy them from ASCM yourself; on our program the exam is already included, so membership is optional. We walk through the numbers in our CSCP cost in Egypt guide.
  3. Choose how you will prepare. You can buy the ASCM Learning System directly, or enroll in our Certified Supply Chain Professional program, which runs live online with an instructor or in classroom in New Cairo when a batch is scheduled. Our fee includes the course, the exam and the certification fee, as the course page states.
  4. Secure the exam: self study candidates purchase it from ASCM, while on our program it is already covered by the fee. ASCM then issues an authorization to test, valid for about twelve months at the time of writing. The clock starts the day you buy, not the day you start studying.
  5. Book your seat at a Pearson VUE center in Greater Cairo or as an online proctored exam. Our CSCP exam in Egypt article covers the booking screens and ID rules step by step.
Our Egypt CSCP fee already includes the exam, so check it before you pay ASCM directly.View the CSCP program

Mistakes Egyptian applicants actually make

Eligibility is almost never the issue. These are.

Name mismatch. This is the number one problem we see. The ASCM account says Mohamed Ahmed, the passport says Mohammed Ahmed Hassan, and the Pearson VUE center turns the candidate away. Egyptian names have several valid transliterations, so pick the passport version and use it everywhere.

Buying the exam too early. Candidates purchase the bundle in January with good intentions, start studying in June, and find they have six months left on the authorization. If you hold a demanding role at a plant in 10th of Ramadan or a shared service center in Cairo, buy when you can realistically commit 8 to 12 weeks of study.

Assuming CPIM must come first. It does not. CSCP, CPIM and CLTD are independent credentials. If your role spans the whole chain from supplier to customer, you can go straight to CSCP. Our CSCP vs CPIM vs CLTD comparison helps you choose.

Confusing CSCP with CISCP. They sound alike. CISCP is an IPSCMI credential whose exam we administer ourselves; CSCP is an ASCM credential taken only through Pearson VUE. Different bodies, different fees, different exams.

Thinking membership is automatic. It is a separate decision with its own renewal. Several candidates have paid non member prices without realizing the member route would have been cheaper even after the membership fee.

If you do not feel ready yet

Some professionals in our Egyptian classes are fresh graduates from an industrial engineering or business program, or they moved into procurement from accounting and have under two years in the field. ASCM may let you register, but the CSCP exam assumes you understand how a demand plan, a sourcing strategy and a distribution network fit together. Walking in without that context is the main reason people fail on the first attempt.

A sensible path is to start with our self paced Supply Chain Management Fundamentals program, which is free of charge at the time of writing, then move to CSCP once the vocabulary feels natural. Others choose the Certified International Supply Chain Professional from IPSCMI as a first credential because it is quicker and far cheaper, then add CSCP two or three years later when an employer or a Gulf recruiter asks for it.

If you want the full picture of how CSCP fits a career in Egypt, including salaries and the honest case for and against, start at our CSCP certification guides for Egypt hub. Or simply call the Cairo office and describe your background. We will tell you plainly whether to register now or build up first.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a bachelor's degree to take the CSCP exam in Egypt?

At the time of writing, ASCM's CSCP page lists no degree or experience prerequisite, so a degree is not a gate. The older rule asked for a bachelor's degree, three years of related experience or an active credential such as CPIM. We still use that rule as a readiness test with our Cairo candidates, and we recommend checking ascm.org before you pay.

Is my Egyptian university degree accepted by ASCM?

Yes in practice, because ASCM does not evaluate or attest degrees at registration. A bachelor's from Cairo University, Ain Shams, Alexandria University, AUC or any recognized Egyptian university counts as an international equivalent. Keep a scanned copy in case your employer or ASCM ever asks for verification.

Does my experience letter need to be in English?

ASCM does not collect it at registration, but if it is requested in an audit or by a sponsoring employer, an English or bilingual letter avoids delays. Ask your HR team for an English version with your title, dates and supply chain duties. A certified translation of the Arabic letter also works.

Can a fresh graduate in Egypt register for CSCP?

Registration is usually possible, but we rarely advise it. The exam assumes working knowledge of planning, sourcing and logistics, and the fresh graduates in our classes who skipped that foundation struggled. Start with Supply Chain Management Fundamentals or CISCP, gain a year or two of experience, then take CSCP.

Do I need to be an ASCM member to apply?

No, membership is optional. It lowers the exam and Learning System fees, so for most Egyptian candidates buying from ASCM directly it pays for itself; on our program the exam is already included. Non members can register and sit the exam on the same terms. Compare both routes in our cost guide before you decide.

Can I apply through Blue Ocean Academy instead of directly with ASCM?

You enroll in the training with us, and we guide you through the ASCM account, the purchase and the Pearson VUE booking. The authorization to test is always issued by ASCM in your own name. Our fee includes the course, the exam and the certification fee, as the course page states, so do not buy the exam from ASCM separately.
