PHRi Salary in Egypt: What Certified Professionals Earn
Read this guide in Arabic: اقرأ بالعربية
Nobody should spend EGP 56,200 on a certification, even with the exam included, without asking what it does to their pay. The honest answer for the PHRi in Egypt is that it changes which doors open more than it changes the number on any single offer. Below are the ranges we see in salary surveys and in the job postings our learners bring to class, organized by seniority, sector and city. Treat every figure as a range, not a promise.
HR salaries in Egypt by seniority and sector
Egyptian HR pay varies far more by employer type than by title. The same HR Specialist title can pay double at a multinational in New Cairo compared with a family owned trading company in Downtown. The table below shows the monthly EGP ranges that salary surveys and postings typically show at the time of writing, for Greater Cairo. Alexandria and the regions are discussed further down.
| Level | Multinationals, banks and shared service centers | Large Egyptian groups | SMEs and local firms |
|---|---|---|---|
| HR Specialist or Generalist, roughly 2 to 5 years | EGP 18,000 to 35,000 | EGP 12,000 to 25,000 | EGP 8,000 to 18,000 |
| Senior Specialist, HR Business Partner or Section Head, roughly 5 to 10 years | EGP 35,000 to 70,000 | EGP 25,000 to 50,000 | EGP 15,000 to 30,000 |
| HR Manager | EGP 70,000 to 150,000 | EGP 45,000 to 90,000 | EGP 25,000 to 50,000 |
| HR Director or Head of People | EGP 150,000 and above | EGP 90,000 to 180,000 | Rarely a separate role |
Government and public sector roles sit below the SME column for cash salary, although allowances, job security and pensions change the comparison. Banks such as CIB, NBE and Banque Misr are a category of their own: base pay is often in the middle of the multinational range, but bonuses and profit share can add several months of salary a year.
These are the ranges where the Professional in Human Resources International (PHRi) most often appears in the job description: the first two columns, from senior specialist upward.
What the certification actually adds
Here is what we tell our Cairo classes. Postings that list PHRi or SPHRi as preferred tend to sit in the upper half of the ranges above, and they are concentrated in multinationals, banks, shared service centers and the larger Egyptian groups that benchmark against them. The premium is real, but it comes mostly from moving across those sector lines, not from your current employer handing you a raise the week after you pass.
Inside a company, the certification usually shows up at the next promotion or grade review rather than as an immediate bump. Where we do see immediate effects is in two situations: when an employer has a formal certification allowance in its pay policy, which some multinationals and pharma plants do, and when a candidate uses the credential to switch from an Egyptian group to a multinational, where the jump can be 30 to 50 percent of base pay for the same title.
Be realistic about the other side too. A payroll officer at a 60 person company in Shubra will not see their pay change because of three letters after their name. The certification pays when there is a market for it, and that market is specific. We lay out who gains most in Is PHRi worth it in Egypt.
Cairo, Alexandria and the Suez Canal zone
Greater Cairo pays the most, simply because that is where the multinational regional offices, the shared service centers in New Cairo and Smart Village, the bank head offices and the holding companies sit. The New Administrative Capital is pulling ministries and bank headquarters eastward, which is creating new HR roles with a government services flavor but mostly without a pay premium yet.
Alexandria typically runs 10 to 20 percent below Cairo for the same title, with two exceptions: the pharmaceutical and petrochemical plants around Borg El Arab and Amreya, which pay close to Cairo multinational rates, and the port and logistics operators, where HR managers handle large blue collar workforces and are paid for it.
The Suez Canal Economic Zone is the interesting one. Factories opening in Ain Sokhna and East Port Said, many of them foreign owned, need HR managers who can recruit at scale, manage Egyptian labor law compliance and work with expatriate management. Base pay is often similar to Cairo, but site postings frequently add transport, housing or a site allowance that lifts the total package. The same pattern holds in the 10th of Ramadan and 6th of October industrial zones for export manufacturers.
Where demand is coming from
Five things are driving HR hiring in Egypt at the time of writing, and all of them favor people with an international certification.
- Export manufacturing in the Suez Canal zone and the industrial cities, with foreign investors who expect HR practices they recognize
- Shared service and outsourcing centers in Cairo that run HR operations for Europe and the Gulf and recruit by the hundred
- Banking and fintech, where HR teams are growing with digital banking and payments licenses
- Tourism recovery along the Red Sea and in Luxor and Aswan, where hotel groups rebuild HR functions
- Egypt Vision 2030 projects, from the New Administrative Capital to new industrial corridors, each with a staffing plan behind it
The job titles that most often ask for PHRi in Egyptian postings are HR Business Partner, Talent Acquisition Specialist or Lead, Compensation and Benefits Specialist, HR Generalist, HR Shared Services Team Lead, Learning and Development Specialist, HRIS Analyst and HR Manager. Notice that few of them say PHRi required; most say preferred. That is the gap you fill when two CVs look alike.
The Gulf route
For many Egyptian HR professionals the real salary conversation is not about Cairo at all. HR roles in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain regularly list PHRi or SPHRi, and the same title that pays EGP 40,000 in Cairo can pay several times that once converted, with housing and flights on top. Remote and hybrid roles for Gulf employers, paid in USD or AED into an Egyptian account, have also become common since the pandemic.
Two cautions. Gulf employers usually want the certification already in hand, not in progress, so timing matters. And for HR manager and above, they increasingly ask for SPHRi rather than PHRi; if you have more than five years of professional HR experience, read our aPHRi vs PHRi vs SPHRi comparison and consider going straight to the Senior Professional in Human Resources International (SPHRi).
Putting the numbers together
A senior HR specialist in Cairo earning EGP 30,000 a month who moves to a multinational HR Business Partner role at EGP 45,000 has recovered the full cost of certification in under six months of the difference. Someone who uses it to land a Gulf role recovers it in the first month. Someone who stays in the same seat at the same company may wait years. The full cost breakdown in EGP and the rest of our PHRi certification guides for Egypt will help you run your own version of that calculation.
Frequently asked questions
What salary can a PHRi certified HR professional expect in Egypt?
It depends far more on employer type than on the certificate. Salary surveys and postings at the time of writing typically show senior HR specialists and HR business partners at multinationals and banks in Cairo between roughly EGP 35,000 and 70,000 a month, and HR managers between about EGP 70,000 and 150,000. Large Egyptian groups and SMEs pay less.
Does PHRi increase your salary in Egypt?
Usually indirectly. Postings that prefer PHRi sit in the upper half of market ranges and are concentrated in multinationals, banks and shared service centers. The gain comes from qualifying for those roles, or from a certification allowance where an employer has one, rather than from an automatic raise at your current job.
Which employers in Egypt pay the most for certified HR professionals?
Multinational regional offices and shared service centers in New Cairo and Smart Village, the large banks, pharmaceutical and FMCG plants, and foreign owned factories in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Large Egyptian groups in construction, real estate and energy follow, often with strong bonuses.
Is PHRi enough to get an HR job in the Gulf?
It is one of the certifications Gulf employers most often list for HR specialist and business partner roles, and it helps an Egyptian CV stand out. For HR manager and director roles they increasingly ask for SPHRi. Gulf employers generally want the credential completed before you apply, so plan the timing.
How does HR pay in Alexandria or the Suez Canal zone compare with Cairo?
Alexandria typically runs 10 to 20 percent below Cairo for the same title, except at pharmaceutical, petrochemical and port employers. Suez Canal zone factories in Ain Sokhna and East Port Said often match Cairo base pay and add transport, housing or site allowances, so the total package can be higher.
