Which aviation course should I take if I am new to the field?

Take Fundamentals of Aviation first. The course page lists about 47 hours of study, it is self paced and it is free.

It lists students, recent graduates, aspiring aviation professionals and airport service staff as its audience, so you can start there before you spend on a role specific program. Once you know which job you want, look at the live online IATA programs:

  • Airline Cabin Crew for cabin crew candidates, AED 5,000. It ends in a certificate of completion, not a license or a job offer.
  • Passenger Ground Service Agent for airport operations staff, ground handling professionals and airline customer service agents, AED 5,000.
  • Airport Ramp Services for aspiring ramp and ground handling professionals and newly recruited ground service staff, AED 5,200. These three courses run online or through the Authorized Training Center in Dubai.

One more option sits alongside these. Mastering Ethics in Aviation is free, self paced and lists about 45 hours. It lists airline and airport employees, safety and compliance personnel and aviation managers as its audience.

Which aviation course helps me move into a lead role?

If you already work in ground handling, ramp, baggage or passenger service, Aviation Career Foundations lists ground handling, ramp and baggage staff moving into supervision among its audience. Its level is Leadership and the course page lists about 69 hours of study, self paced, at AED 999.

If you manage people or whole operations, look at the Professional courses. Mastering Strategic Aviation suits airport managers and operations leaders, with about 45 hours listed. Mastering Airport Operations is aimed at airport professionals and operations managers, also about 45 hours. Mastering Aviation in AI Era lists about 48 hours.

The Cabinet decision on Emiratisation requires private sector companies with 50 or more employees to raise the Emirati share of their skilled jobs by 2 percent each year, for an overall 10 percent increase by 2026, according to the UAE Government Portal. If you are Emirati and aiming at a lead role, include private sector aviation companies of that size in your job search.

Can I move into aviation from another field?

Start with the Executive programs, which are live online. Airport Operations Fundamentals lists individuals seeking careers in airport and airline operations, plus customer service and ground operations personnel, at AED 5,000.

If your background is travel or hospitality, the Foundation in Travel and Tourism Diploma, live online at AED 5,600, lists travel agency and airline service candidates among its audience. If you work in customer service today, Mastering Aviation Customer Experience lists about 48 hours of study.

Which aviation course suits my role?

Match the course to the job you do or want in the UAE, not to the longest title.

  • Student or recent graduate: Fundamentals of Aviation.
  • Safety, compliance or airline staff: Mastering Ethics in Aviation, free and self paced, about 45 hours listed.
  • Passenger service or cabin crew applicant: Airline Cabin Crew, or Aviation Career Foundations if you are preparing for assessment days.
  • Ramp, baggage or ground handling: Airport Ramp Services, then Aviation Career Foundations to move toward supervision.
  • Airport manager or operations leader: Mastering Strategic Aviation or Mastering Airport Operations.

Who regulates aviation in the UAE?

The General Civil Aviation Authority regulates civil aviation and aviation services across the UAE and its airspace. The federal cabinet created it by decree in 1996, according to the GCAA.

If your role needs a license or permit, ask the authority what it requires before you pay for any course, because a course is not a license.
