Procurement Courses in India

Procurement Courses in India

Short version. Blue Ocean Academy offers 22 procurement courses for learners in India, in three routes. CIPS qualifications (Level 3, Level 4 and Level 5) are delivered by distance learning through Blue Ocean Corporation Private Limited, a CIPS approved study centre in New Delhi. IPSCMI credentials (CIPP, CIPM, CICCM and the sourcing, vendor management, auditor and consultant designations) are examined, staged and delivered live online. Self-paced programmes under the Mastering Business Excellence banner cover negotiation, contracts, cost management, lean procurement and strategic procurement. If you are new to the field, read how to start a career in procurement in India first; if you are choosing between CIPS and IPSCMI, the procurement certification comparison is written for exactly that decision.

Who these courses are for

  • Buyers and purchasing officers who want to move from transactional purchasing into category or sourcing roles. CIPS Level 4 or IPSCMI CIPP are the usual first credentials.
  • Procurement and sourcing managers who need the strategic and commercial layer: CIPS Level 5, IPSCMI CIPM, or the strategic procurement programmes.
  • Contract and commercial managers in construction, energy, IT and government: IPSCMI CICCM and the Contracts Simplified programme.
  • Public procurement staff working with GeM, tenders and state procurement rules. Our Delhi centre page covers why public procurement makes Delhi a procurement city.
  • Graduates who want a recognised starting point: Procurement Management Fundamentals, then CIPS Level 3 or CIPP.

Purchasing and procurement are not the same thing; if the distinction is unclear, this explainer covers it in five minutes.

Blue Ocean Academy is the training provider. The awarding body sets the syllabus and the exam. Completing a course with us does not itself confer a CIPS qualification or an IPSCMI designation; passing their exams does.

CIPS in India, exactly as CIPS records it

Blue Ocean Corporation Private Limited is listed by CIPS as an approved centre and study centre for distance learning in India, at Mohan Dev Building, Tolstoy Marg, Connaught Place, New Delhi, for the Certificate, Advanced Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma. Three things follow from that record, and we state them plainly because many Indian pages do not.

  1. Delivery is distance learning. Your CIPS study with us in India is online, with tutor support. We do not advertise CIPS classroom batches in India unless and until CIPS confirms that mode in writing.
  2. We are not a CIPS exam centre. CIPS lists a single exam venue in India, in Bengaluru, and only for the Advanced Certificate. In practice most Indian CIPS candidates sit their exams by remote invigilation. We help you book; we do not run the exam.
  3. Level 4 is the highest entry point. In CIPS's own words, "the highest entry level for our qualifications is the Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply." You then progress to Level 5 and Level 6 to become eligible to apply for MCIPS, which also requires three years' experience in a position of responsibility.

The CIPS courses we deliver:

Exam timing. CIPS runs exams five times a year, in March, May, July, September and November, plus a January series. The September and January series are objective-response only, which matters at Diploma level where constructed-response papers apply; plan a Level 4 or Level 5 timetable around March, May, July and November. For the full picture, including fees as CIPS publishes them and what MCIPS really requires, read CIPS certification in India.

IPSCMI credentials by role

IPSCMI credentials are staged and examined. IPSCMI describes itself as a professional certification institute; it makes no accreditation claim on its own website, and we do not make one for it.

Choosing between CIPP and CIPM, or between the IPSCMI route and CIPS, is a real decision with trade-offs on recognition, cost and time. Compare them here.

Self-paced programmes by skill

All of these are Mastering Business Excellence programmes unless stated, studied on your own timetable with a certificate of completion from Blue Ocean Academy.

Formats and fees

Course pages show one of two delivery types: live online (instructor-led cohorts, with recordings; most also offer a self-paced alternative) and self-paced. CIPS study is distance learning as described above. Fees appear in Indian rupees on each course page for visitors in India; we do not publish a fee table here because CIPS and IPSCMI set their own exam and membership fees separately from our tuition, and those change.

Exams in India

  • CIPS: scheduled series as above; remote invigilation for most Indian candidates; one physical venue in Bengaluru for the Advanced Certificate only.
  • IPSCMI: examinations administered through the course; your advisor will explain the format for the credential you choose.
  • CMI Strategic Procurement Master and self-paced programmes: assessed within the course.

Choosing, in five questions

  1. Do you want a UK chartered-body qualification or a credential you can complete faster? CIPS is the long road with the widest recognition in procurement; IPSCMI is quicker and staged.
  2. How much procurement experience do you have? Under two years, CIPS Level 3 or CIPP. Two years or more, CIPS Level 4 or CIPM.
  3. Is your work mostly contracts? CICCM or Contracts Simplified will serve you better than a general credential.
  4. Will your employer pay? Ask which body their senior buyers hold. Some Indian employers specify CIPS; many public-sector tenders do not specify either.
  5. Can you commit to exam windows? CIPS exams are fixed series; IPSCMI and self-paced programmes are more flexible.

Studying from your city

Live online and distance learning make the course the same wherever you are in India. Our centres in New Delhi (Connaught Place), Noida, Pune, Hyderabad and Kochi are where you can meet an advisor in person; see Delhi, Noida, Pune, Hyderabad and Kochi. We do not have premises in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai or Kolkata; learners there study with us online.

Frequently asked questions

Which procurement course is best for beginners in India? Procurement Management Fundamentals to learn the language, then CIPS Level 3 or IPSCMI CIPP once you are in a buying role.

Is CIPS available in India? Yes, by distance learning through CIPS approved study centres, of which Blue Ocean Corporation Private Limited is one. Exams are mostly sat by remote invigilation.

Can I go straight to CIPS Level 5? No. Level 4 is the highest entry point CIPS allows; Level 5 follows it.

Is IPSCMI recognised? IPSCMI credentials are held by procurement professionals worldwide and are examined. IPSCMI does not claim accreditation by a third party, and neither do we on its behalf. If your employer specifies a particular body, follow that.

Do you teach public procurement and GeM? Public procurement principles are covered in the fundamentals and strategic programmes; GeM is an Indian government portal with its own training. We do not run a GeM-specific course.

Do you guarantee a job after certification? No. These are professional qualifications, not placement programmes.
